People live in twenty-first century have a better quality of life than people who lived in previous centuries. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Living in the 21st century, compared with the preceding ones, offers certain benefits, especially a higher standard of living. However, there is no gainsaying the fact that life in the modern society is beset by severer problems than ever before, which can hardly be offset by its seemingly positive advantages.
Admittedly, it is fortunate that most people of the current century earn more money for less back-breaking work, while enjoying a comfortable life. Companies of various kinds provide people with lucrative opportunities, by which handsome salaries are earned and better social security is offered, such as old-age pensions. From another perspective, people’s life expectancy, which has become much longer, proves the enhanced living standard; people’s affordability, for example, to foods of rich nutrients, moreover, bodes well specifically for this fact, too.
On the debit side, nevertheless, living in the 21st century puts people at more significant disadvantages, with the most one lying in the increasingly polluted environment: gigantic factory chimneys stood in the industrial landscape, and clouds of thick black smog billowed with a pungent smell. This happens in many parts of the world. It reminded me of the post-apocalyptic fiction film Waterworld, in which humans could only survive on floating manmade islands, because of the over-exploitation and use of fossil fuels, causing the complete melting of polar ice caps. This is no exaggeration: the impending doom would be spelt if prompt action were not taken.
In conclusion, although the 21st century has indeed given us hosts of modern comforts, we should not be lulled into a false sense of sheer gratification but must take immediate measures to conserve the ecosystem, or we may have the dubious honour of being the last, only species living on the planet.
Childcare is an important task for nations. It is suggested that all mothers and fathers should be required to take childcare courses. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is thought that all parents should attend a childcare training course in order to properly understand how to bring up their children. In my opinion, while I agree that parents should learn about childcare,it is not realistic to have mandatory childcare training courses for all parents.
Firstly,it is certainly essential that parents learn the basics of childcare, particularly in the early months and years when they first have a child.Understanding a baby’s needs and the possible medical problems that can arise is essential for the baby’s safety.Without such knowledge they could easily put their baby at risk or not be ready to respond to critical situations in the right way.
However, although childcare is important,it would be practically impossible to have obligatory childcare training courses for all parents due to a large number of new parents each year. This article is from Laokaoya website. For example, there are over half a million children born annually in the UK at present which means that over 750,000 parents would have to attend a childcare training course each year. Both the large scale and cost of such a training course makes this option very difficult to implement.
Finally,a more practical solution to teaching parents, therefore, would be to provide easily accessible information on a website with a free online video training course. This would ensure all parents have access to the necessary information at a fraction of the cost. This would also allow parents to decide which information is useful and still bring up their children according to their own culture or religion.
In conclusion,it is best to provide a free video training course and website which is cheap to make and accessible to all parents rather than a training course which parents need to attend in person.
People attend college or university for many different reasons(for example, new experiences, career preparation, increased knowledge).
Why do you think people attend college or university?
People attend college for a lot of different reasons.I believe that the three most common reasons are to prepare for a career,to have new experiences, and to increase their knowledge of themselves and of the world around them.
Career preparation is probably the primary reason that people attend college. These days, the job market is very competitive.Careers such as information technology will need many new workers in the near future. At college, students can learn new skills for these careers and increase their opportunities for the future.
Students also go to college to have new experiences. For many,it is their first time away from home.At college, they can meet new people from many different places. They can see what life is like in a different city. They can learn to live on their own and take care of themselves without having their family always nearby.
At college, students have the opportunity to increase their knowledge. As they decide what they want to study, pursue their studies, and interact with their classmates, they learn a lot about themselves. They also,of course, have the opportunity to learn about many subjects in their classes. In addition to the skills and knowledge related to their career, college students also have the chance to take classes in other areas. For many, this will be their last chance to study different subjects.
Colleges offer much more than career preparation. They offer the opportunity to have new experiences and to learn many kinds of things.I think all of these are reasons why people attend college.
Parents are the best teachers.
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
Parents shape their children from the beginning of their children's lives. They teach their children values. They share their interests with them. They develop close emotional ties with them.Parents can be very important teachers in their children's lives;however, they are not always the best teachers.
Parents may be too close to their children emotionally. For example, they may limit a child's freedom in the name of safety.A teacher may organize an educational trip to a big city, but a parent may think this trip is too dangerous.A school may want to take the children camping, but a parent may be afraid of the child getting hurt.
Another problem is that parents sometimes expect their children's interests to be similar to their own.If the parents love science, they may try to force their child to love science too.But what if the child prefers art?If the parents enjoy sports, they may expect their child to participate on different teams. But what if the child prefers to read?
Parents want to pass on their values to their children. However, things change. The children of today are growing up in a world different from their parents'world.Sometimes parents, especially older ones, can't keep up with rapid social or technological changes.A student who has friends of different races at school may find that his parents have narrower views.A student who loves computers may find that her parents don't understand or value the digital revolution.
Parents are important teachers in our lives, but they aren't always the best teachers.Fortunately,we have many teachers in our lives. Our parents teach us,our teachers teach us,and we learn from our peers.Books and newspapers also teach us.All of them are valuable.
